"Over the past year, Instagram Stories has become a key part of how you express yourself - but there hasn't been an easy way to keep your stories around for more than 24 hours", Instagram said in its announcement.

Instagram today announced two new features and both of them have to do with the Stories. "Once you're done, your highlight will appear as a circle on your profile that plays as a stand-alone story when someone taps it", the company explains. There, the saved Stories will live alongside any posts you've previously archived.

The first new feature is a Story Archive. Users can now take Stories they've archived and add them to a highlights section at the top of their profile page.

The stories feature was borrowed from Snapchat past year.

To access it, users can now tap the archive icon on their profiles in the top-right corner.

And for good reason - part of the company's reasoning behind Stories in the first place (besides competing with Snapchat, that is) was that users were so exacting about what was on their profile that they weren't posting almost as often as Instagram wanted. From there, you can easily switch between your Posts Archive and your new Stories Archive. The Highlighted stories feature will offer them another way to personalize their pages.

'In your Stories Archive, your stories will appear in a grid with the most recent stories at the bottom, ' according to Instagram.

Throughout 2017, we've seen Instagram roll out new features Stories at a fairly consistent pace. "To edit or remove a highlight, just tap and hold that highlight on your profile".

To create a highlight, tap the circular "new" icon under your main profile picture. Using the menu, you can add old Stories to your current one as a #ThrowbackThursday type of thing or you can share it as a regular post. From here on out, stories that you share will be added to your archive, allowing you go back and revisit them at any time. For those that don't want the auto-archive feature, you will be able to turn it off. Users will receive a notification when Stories Archives kicks in, letting them opt out of the feature.

The private archive was not all there is today-Instagram also launched a new tool called Stories Highlights.
