The New York Post first reported details of the police report.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra, where Levine was a conductor from 2004 to 2011, also called the accusations "deeply disturbing" in a statement on Sunday.

The report was publicized by The New York Post on Saturday, which obtained a copy through the Lake Forest Police Department in IL, where it was filed.

In the report, the alleged victim, who is now 48, described being molested by Levine beginning when he was 15 and Levine, now 74, was in his early 40s. The first alleged incident of abuse took place in in 1985, when the victim was 15, when Levine drove him home to his parent's house and "started holding my hand in a prolonged and incredibly sensual way".

The Met tweeted on Saturday evening that it was "deeply disturbed by the news" about Levine and announced their investigation with "outside resources to determine whether charges of sexual misconduct in the 1980s are true, so that we can take appropriate action". In his complaint, the victim also detailed how Levine masturbated in front of him and kissed his penis.

General Manager Peter Gelb told the Times that though the investigation is launching now, the Met had been aware of the police report when it was made in October 2016.

The unnamed victim said in his statement to police "It nearly destroyed my family and almost led me to suicide". The alleger explains in the report that the misconduct continued as he sought a mentorship from the famed conductor, who had promised to see if he could "be raised special like me".

A 2016 police report obtained by the New York Times contains several allegations of sexual abuse against Metropolitan Opera Music Director Emeritus James Levine. At the time, he said, Levine said he wouldn't send him money anymore.

Multiple attempts by ABC News to reach Levine's representative were not immediately returned on Sunday.

Levine served as Music Director of New York's Metropolitan Opera from 1976 until April 2016. "Now I can", the man has said.

The man told police he last spoke with Levine in 2014.

Levine, who once led the BSO, has been accused of molesting IL teenager decades ago.
